PM Modi inaugurates Phase 1 of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi
The Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the most famous Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in Vishwanath Gali of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh in India. The Temple stands on the western bank of the holy river Ganga, and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, or Jyotirlingams, the holiest of Shiva Temples.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (13 Dec) inaugurated the first phase of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Uttar Pradesh's ancient holy city Varanasi.
"The Kashi Vishwanath temple premises, which were only around 3000 square feet, has now become about 5 lakh square feet. Now, 50,000 to 75,000 devotees can come to visit the temple and its premises",
A total of 23 buildings will be inaugurated in phase 1 of the project. These buildings will provide a variety of facilities to pilgrims visiting the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, including yatri suvidha kendras (tourist facilitation centre), vedic kendra, mumukshu bhavan, bhogshala, city museum, viewing gallery, food court, among others.
The corridor connects Kashi Vishwanath Temple complex with the three main Ghats on ganges and there has been 40 temples are restored and beautified.
A stretch of ghats is also restored and a private vessel also started operating to give more experiences on the ghats and to know more about this ancient city. The laser show was also inaugrated at aarti time and this will be another addition and experience.
The work was not stopped during the covid and the first phase is completed one month ahead of schedule. The prime Minister appriciated all the workers.
Coronavirus India Updates
The number of cases of variant Omicron has risen to 213 in India. India's coronavirus tally reached 3,47,58,481 yesterday after the country reported 6,317 new infections. However, the active cases declined to 78,190, the lowest in 575 days.
The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 137.67 crore.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the active cases in the country account for less than one per cent of total cases, currently at 0.24 per cent which is the lowest since March last year.
